Protecting Alaska's remote coastlines and marine resources from marine debris is a huge challenge. While events like the 2011 Japanese Tsunami helped create increased awareness of the marine debris issue, it is an ongoing problem that is the result of decades of accumulation and growth in the use of non-biodegradable packaging. The OASLC produced the two following videos about cleanup in the Kenai Fjords region and continues to work on expanding awareness, research, and mitigation of marine debris in Alaska's national parks.
