Past Student Capstone Projects

Oregon Institute of Technology student Scott McEnroe was an Environmental Science Major with an emphasis in Sustainable Technologies. For his Senior Capstone project, Scott developed a portable solar trailer for use at Crater Lake National Park. .

Oregon Institute of Technology student, Scott McFarland, helped launch an acoustical survey of Crater Lake National Park to help determine impacts of noise on natural sounds in the park.

Oregon Institute of Technology student Steven Barto did research as a part of a Technical Writing class at OIT. His work helped illuminate some technology options the park may have in the future.

Southern Oregon University students Nick Brettner and Levi McKay completed research on the Phantom Ship formation in Crater Lake. Their project determined the formation was part of Mount Mazama before it blew its climactic eruption 7,700 years ago, and that erosion cutting down through layers of rock carved the ship shape.

Southern Oregon University graduate student, Susie Roe-Andersen completed a thesis entitled The Ecology of the Crater Lake Moonwort, Botricium pumicola in partial fulfillment of her Master's degree in Biology.

Southern Oregon University graduate student, John Viellella, was inspired after his involvement in park inventories to pursue his graduate work with an emphasis in Botany from Southern Oregon University. His research focused on lichens and evaluated the results of a bio-intensive survey for lichens in the park.

Southern Oregon University McNair Scholar in Psychology, Althea Godfrey, completed a social science research project entitled "Crater Lake National Park: Who Goes There? Exploring the Meaning of Nature with Visitors".
