What do Buffalo Soldiers have to do with the National Park Service? African American soldiers of the 9th Cavalry Regiment, a troop of African American soldiers organized in New Orleans, and the 10th Cavalry Regiment served in the West in the late 1800s and early 1900s and were known as Buffalo Soldiers. About 100 Buffalo Soldiers are buried at Chalmette National Cemetery (adjacent to Chalmette Battlefield). Learn about them at a special exhibit on loan from Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument in Ohio.

Chalmette Battlefield is located at 8606 West St. Bernard Highway in Chalmette.
