Labor Day Celebration

Join us for another Labor Day Celebration!

Pullman National Monument and State Historic Site invite you to celebrate Labor Day September 5, 2022 between noon and 4:00 pm at 11001 S. Cottage Grove Ave (and 111^th St). This free event takes place outdoors at the historic Pullman manufacturing grounds. There will be family friendly activities, guided walking tours, musical performances, and speakers sharing this year’s theme, “Building Solidarity Through Diversity.”

Don’t miss the new exhibits inside the NPS Visitor Center, where kids can also make a craft to take home. "Our new visitor center is open daily, and thousands of visitors have explored Pullman National Monument and State Historic Site since the grand opening last year. Labor Day will always be a special day of celebration at Pullman as we commemorate the historic events that connect Pullman to the American labor rights movement," said National Park Service Superintendent Teri Gage.

Join us at noon for opening remarks at the program tent. Nearby, park partners will have information and activities associated with the theme. Our first concert starts at 1:00 pm where Bucky Halker on guitar and Don Stiernberg on mandolin will perform traditional labor songs. Don’t miss Jose Valdes’ Band heating up at 2:00 pm., known regionally for their Latin Jazz, Salsa, Mambo and Caribbean fusion. At 3:00 pm enjoy youth performers connecting with traditional West African sounds when Azania Drum takes the stage. Don’t be surprised to see “Mother Jones” make an appearance at 3:30 to close the event with a “labor” speech.

Free guided walking tours leave from the historic worker’s gate. The Illinois Labor History Society will tour the residential area south of 111^th at noon and 2:00 pm. National Park Service Rangers offer a “Strikes at Pullman” tour at 1:00 and 3:00 pm. Tours last 45-minutes.
