A beach wheelchair for Drakes Beach is available upon request. Please email us to make a reservation; be sure to include:

  • your name and address (e.g., fill in all contact information fields)
  • the date and time for which you are requesting use of the beach wheelchair.

Reservations can be made in two-hour blocks. Please provide at least five days' notice. The beach wheelchair is located in a brown metal shed on the beach-side of the Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center near the facility's access ramp. The combination for the padlock to the shed will be given via email upon receipt of the information requested above.

Be mindful of high tide if you are planning to be on the beach for an extended period of time. Daily tide charts can be found on the NOAA's Tides and Currents website.

Dogs, other than service animals who are performing a service, are not allowed on this beach.

Please note that Drakes Beach and the paths leading to it do not meet accessibility standards. Due to the dynamic nature of the beach, the slopes of the dunes and access paths may vary. Both small and large pieces of driftwood may accumulate on beach access paths. Feel free to call the visitor information line for a full site description and current conditions.

From late December through April, northern elephant seals are usually present at Drakes Beach and may be too close to (and sometimes on) beach access pathways to allow for safe access onto the beach. While the beach may be closed to visitors, the parking lot usually remains open and the seals may be viewed from the parking lot.

Point Reyes National Seashore strives for full and equal participation for all visitors. Please feel free to email us any comments and suggestions for improving accessibility in the park.

We have received reports of email systems sending our responses to junk mail boxes. If you don't find a response from us in your inbox within a week of making your request, check your junk mail box.
