OBJECTIVE: Provide community education through the West Marin Disaster Council communication structure.
DESCRIPTION: Educating and promoting the use of defensible space, in cooperation with the Fire Districts / Departments, through Power Point presentations will be the key to this project. Training and informational materials will also be provided to each household to create individual and neighborhood evacuation and family reunification plans. Information on all aspects of community, neighborhood and household disaster preparedness will be provided. The Disaster Council will also facilitate postal patron mailings to reinforce defensible space and disaster preparedness information and training. Quarterly Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) class sign ups will also be available at the Neighborhood meetings. CERT includes a 4-hour, hands-on training session on Fire Prevention and Suppression. Defensible space and Wildland/Urban Interface Fires are two of the main topics during this training. Emergency contact information, special needs, available emergency resources, and fire education interests data will also be collected and updated at the neighborhood meetings.
