Northern elephant seal colonies are peaking throughout the Headlands. Several males have been dye marked to observe how they move around the various coves and beach areas. Especially high tides have caused some ripples through the population as seals are attempting to avoid the water surges.
Four legged exotic plant management teams are on duty at D Ranch above Drakes Beach! The goats are back in action eating thistles and clearing other non-native plants.
The Bear Valley and Lighthouse Visitor Centers are open through the holiday weekend; the Ken Patrick Visitor Center will be open if there is clear weather and shuttle service is operating. Backcountry camps are full, though boat-in permits are available at this time.
