Early risers on the morning of December 7 may see the crescent moon in the east (over Black Mountain) with the tiny glowing planet Venus next to it. The Geminids meteor shower offers sparkling holiday lights between December 6 and 19. They are described as "brightly colored" with 50 to 120 per hour, peaking on the 13th. They are best seen after 10 pm.

The fire season is officially over. Beach fire permits are available from day to day, though they will not be issued on Winter Spare the Air days.

Updated information on marine life quarantines and shellfish toxins is available by calling the California Department of Public Health's Shellfish Information Line at 1-800-553-4133.

The park holidays open house is on Friday, December 11, from 5 to 7 pm at the Bear Valley Visitor Center. Come by and share some holiday spirit with park staff! The Visitor Center is completely reopened after painting [of the exterior] and refurbishing of the floors in the past weeks.
