Weather and Climate

The Trail corridor has a temperate climate typical of the Mid-Atlantic United States with four distinct seasons. Summer tends to be hot and humid, spring and fall are mild, and winter can be cold with freezing temperatures and, on occasion, significant snowstorms. Precipitation can occur in all seasons.
 

Seasons

The Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail experiences four distinct seasons throughout the year. From the famous cherry blossoms blooming in the springtime in Washington, D.C., to the breathtaking fall color along the Allegheny Highlands in the fall. Paddle under a canopy of green along the Potomac River in the summer, and ski along the C&O Canal during winter.
