Cannon Fire for the 250th!
"In honor of the Independence Day holiday and America’s 250th, Shiloh National Military Park will present Civil War cannon firing demonstrations on Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5," announced Acting Superintendent Randy Martin.
The demonstrations will be presented by the Shiloh cannon crew firing a 6-pounder field piece, one of the most common artillery weapons employed during the Battle of Shiloh. Programs will be conducted across the street from the park visitor center.
Demonstrations are scheduled for:
Saturday, July 4
10:00 a.m.
11:30 a.m.
1:30 p.m.
3:00 p.m.
Sunday, July 5
11:00 a.m.
1:00 p.m.
2:30 p.m.
Each program will last approximately 20 minutes and will explore the weapons, ammunition, and firing procedures used by Civil War artillery crews. Visitors will gain a better understanding of the important role artillery played during the Battle of Shiloh and throughout the Civil War.
