Description
Join natural resources staff at Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park (Woodstock, VT) and Saint Gaudens National Historical Park (Cornish, NH) monitor the forests for Hemlock Wooly Adelgid (HWA). HWA is an invasive aphid-like insect that feeds on hemlock trees, resulting in the tree’s defoliation and eventual death. HWA poses a serious risk to the parks' hemlock trees, and early detection is critical to the health of our forests.
Sign up to volunteer for one day, two days, or all three!
Monitoring will be conducted at twelve locations in each park. The day will be spent hiking between the sites, with a break for lunch.
Note: Volunteers must be age 16 and above. Anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
