Description

On Thursday, September 5, The National Park Service in partnership with Visit Corinth will present Singer-Songwriters in the Round on the lawn of the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center. “This will be the second year we are able to partner with Visit Corinth and bring, for free, the music of hit country songwriters to the community,” said Superintendent Dale Wilkerson. The concert will feature three country music songwriters performing their most popular and telling stories of the writing and recording of their tunes. The songwriters scheduled to appear are Rivers Rutherford, Tim James, and Kelley Lovelace.

Rivers Rutherford returns for a second year and helped organize the event for the National Park Service. A Memphis native and Music Row transplant, Rutherford has written eight #1 country singles, and 26 top-40 singles. He has earned multiple Grammy, CMA and ACM nominations and received more than 20 ASCAP Awards, including country song of the year for “Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You” by Brooks and Dunn. Rutherford has written songs for many of country music biggest starts including Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Trace Adkins, and Darius Rucker.

Joining Rutherford will be Kentucky born Kelley Lovelace. A U.S. Army veteran and graduate of Belmont University, Lovelace started working in the song publishing business before choosing to write songs full-time and landing a song writing deal with EMI Music Publishing. He has had songs recorded by Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban Rascal Flatts, and Brad Paisley just to name a few. Among these he has accumulated 22 top-10 Billboard charting songs; 16 of which went to number one. Some of Lovelace’s #1 songs include: Brad Paisley’s “American Saturday Night,” and “Ticks;” “Runnin’ Out of Moonlight,” by Randy Houser, and “I Just Wanna Be Mad” by Terri Clark.

Rounding out our scheduled performers will be Grammy nominated songwriter Tim James. James has had songs recorded by Montgomery Gentry, Craig Morgan, LeeAnn Womack, Trace Adkins, and Lee Brice, among others. He scored a #1 single with the song “My List,” recorded by Toby Keith, and he wrote George Strait’s 60th #1 single “Give It All We Got Tonite.” James’ song “Love Like Crazy,“ by Lee Brice, was nominated for ACM song of the year in 2010, and was the longest running single in the history of the Billboard charts at 56 weeks.

Opening the show will be the Corinth Courthouse Pickers. This locally popular group will move from the Court House to the Interpretive Center and start the night out with some good, old-fashioned bluegrass music.

The concert begins at 6:00 pm and is FREE and open to the public. Concert-goers are invited to being lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets, for a night of music on the battlefield.
