Life Under the Ice Overview. 320 words. 3 paragraphs. The wooden Fishing Pier extends over Loon Lake approximately fifty feet with a hand railing on the left side. About forty feet along the pier, the railing will open to allow access to a secondary pier, where the kayak launch is located. However, after a short gap, the rail starts again on your left and guides you to an open section at the end of the pier, surrounded by railings. From here, peaceful Loon Lake, circled by trees, is viewable from multiple directions. A bench is located at the nearest side of the open section. Across the open section, at the end of the pier overlooking Loon Lake, a three-and-a-half foot wide by two-foot deep shelf extends from the railing at three to four feet high. It contains an exhibit about the lake’s animal life during winter months, incorporating illustrations, text, and two tactile objects.
