The Sunset Park Patrol Cabin is located at Golden Lakes on the Wonderland Trail in the northwest corner of the park. Built in 1922, the cabin is one of the oldest backcountry ranger stations in the park. Aspects of its log frame, rectangular design, with steeply pitched cedar shake gable roof, saddle corner notching, and post and beam frame front porch, were incorporated into the construction of future patrol cabins in the park.

This cabin was an early component of Superintendent Roger Toll’s vision of a string of backcountry shelters on the Wonderland Trail to accommodate the increasing need for backcountry ranger patrols and shelter for the hiking public. This policy evolved and expanded under O.A. Tomlinson’s administration (1923-1941).
