The best location to view Springfield 1908 Race Riot National Monument is from the HSHS St. John's Hospital Women & Children's Clinic Parking Lot. Parking is available at the south end of the lot. From there, it's a short walk to the fencing on the east side of the lot. While there isn’t physical evidence of the historic “Badlands” community visible, visitors can see the area once heavily damaged by race riots in 1908 through the fence.

Visitors can also view the 1908 Race Riot Mural, located inside of the HSHS St. John's Hospital Women & Children's Clinic.

Please keep safety in mind as you visit. There are active train tracks and a construction project nearby.

The archeological heritage contained in the site belongs to us all. Removal of archeological resources from federal lands is against the law. We appreciate your help in preserving and protecting America’s fragile archeological record.
