Redoubt 2 is a reconstruction of one of five different earthworks fortifications built by soldiers during the Valley Forge encampment in order to defend the position from a possible British attack.

This redoubt was constructed strategically on the ridgeline, and provides an unobstructed view of the terrain between Valley Forge and Philadelphia. Had the British attacked from the east, they would have been sighted from this location.
