Monument Description

This monument, donated by the Valley Forge Park Commission under the jurisdiction of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1908, marks the location of the encampment of the Pennsylvania Brigade. The Pennsylvania Brigade was part of the Pennsylvania Line, the contingent of troops from Pennsylvania in the Continental Army. This brigade had formerly been under the command of General Conway who had been promoted to Inspector General. General Conway left the army before the winter encampment. However, the brigade retained his name until after Valley Forge and was sometimes referred to as "Late Conway's Brigade."
