The Memorial Plaza is the quarter-mile northern boundary to the crash site, which is the final resting place of the passengers and crew members. A visit here culminates at the Wall of Names, which features forty white polished marble stones inscribed with the names of the passengers and crew.

Other places to visit at the Memorial Plaza include the Forecourt and Visitor Shelter, Flagpole and Benches, Memorial Plaza Walkway, Impact site, Hemlock Grove, and the Wall of Names and Ceremonial Gate.

As the final resting place for the passengers and crew, the crash site and debris field are the focus of the memorial’s design. The plane crashed into a field adjacent to a grove of hemlock trees and is marked by an approximately 17-ton sandstone boulder. Visitors may walk along the boundary of the crash site following the Memorial Plaza Walkway to the Wall of Names.
