Maranatha Baptist Church was built in 1978. When President and Mrs. Carter returned to Plains after the presidency, this is the church they chose to attend.For decades after returning to Plains, President Carter would regularly teach Sunday school at the church. Mr's. Carter's funeral service was held in the church after her death in 2023.
