Fort Donelson National Cemetery was established in 1867. Buried within this hallowed grounds are the remains of 670 United States soldiers and civilians from the Civil War, plus subsequent veteran burials from all American wars. There are approximately 1,700 gravesites.
The fifteen-acre cemetery is enclosed by a hand-hewn limestone rock wall. A two-story Meigs home, originally built for a cemetery Superintendent, now houses the National Park headquarters. An original carriage house serves as exhibit space and contains an electronic roster of cemetery internments, park brochures, and maps. Restrooms are available in the cemetery.
