The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) is an 18-acre campus in St. Michael’s, MD, explores and preserves the history, environment, and culture of the entire Chesapeake Bay region, and makes this resource accessible to all. Nestled along the Miles River, CBMM features historic working boats, maritime history exhibits, ship models, river excursions, tours of the Hooper Strait Lighthouse and more.
CBMM was first opened to the public in 1965 as a project of the Historical Society of Talbot County. Over the years, the group acquired and showcased waterfront properties and watercraft to expand upon their work. Today, the CBMM campus boasts over 35 buildings, 12 of which house exhibitions that are open to the public. Guests can view more than 100 boats and boat models, historical Bay artifacts, and artworks that include a vast collection of watercolors, decoys, guns, and ship’s signboards.
