Historically this room was used as the Sitka Ecclesiastical School. There was living quarters for the out-of-town students. Over the years as the school grew it utilized different rooms on the first floor as well. By the late 19th century, it was used as a local inn. During the 1900’s the parts of the first floor was used for many things like the local library, a gift shop, and by the Sitka Historical Society.     
In this room you can see the impacts of the Russian Orthodox Church and its influence that last to this day. Learn more about what and how they taught the children who attended school in this building and throughout Russian America.
