Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits, Information

The prairie you see in front of you resembles native prairie, but was once very different. This restored tallgrass prairie was plowed under and farmed for 76 years until efforts began in 1939 to restore it.

Restoration efforts were immense, intense, and ultimately rather rewarding. Looking out over the prairie today instills a sense of wonder at the vibrancy and variety of life within arms length.
