Park Headquarters is currently closed to the public.

Between 1957 an 2001, this building was the South Rim Visitor Center. Some of the park's administrative offices are located here.

Basic trip planning and hiking information is provided on signs just outside of the front entrance to the building. The schedule of daily ranger programs is also posted here.

On the left side of the Headquarters building (the southwest side), the signed Headquarters to Canyon Rim Connector Trail is a paved footpath 0.5 miles (0.8 km) long that intersects with the Canyon Rim Trail on the edge of Grand Canyon. Also at this intersection is the Headquarters Trail of Time Portal, that corresponds with the deposition of rocks belonging to the Grand Canyon Supergroup, some of Grand Canyon's oldest sedimentary rocks.

Just behind Park Headquarters and a short walk down the connector trail mentioned above, is McKee Amphitheater, a popular venue for ranger programs and special events during the warmer months. McKee features bench seating in a large open-air amphitheater.

In front of Park Headquarters, at the far end of the long narrow parking lot, is Shrine of the Ages Auditorium, a multi-purpose building used for meetings, presentations and special events.

Near Shrine of the Ages are two shuttle bus stops:
