The reconstructed Everett Covered Bridge reflects a common historic scene in Ohio. During the 1800s, the state led the nation with over 2,000 covered bridges.

While its original date of construction is uncertain, Everett Covered Bridge is patterned on the 1869 Smith Truss design. At that time, the Ohio & Erie Canal and Valley Railway provided transportation to and from the Cuyahoga Valley. Improvements like the covered bridge made travel within the valley more feasible.

Covered bridges began to lose popularity in the 1880s when more durable iron bridges became an option. Everett Covered Bridge survived until a spring storm destroyed it in 1975. School children, local citizens, private organizations, and government agencies joined hands to secure funds for a historically accurate reconstruction, completed in 1986.
