Pipe Spring Video

Explore the history of Pipe Spring National Monument. In the 19th century people of the Kaibab Band of Paiute Indians, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, known as Mormons, and the United States government encountered one another in this place. They wrestled with their differences and left a story of lasting importance. The monument was proclaimed in 1923 as one of the very earliest National Park sites set aside for its cultural and historic value. "Encounter on the High Desert" explores people in conflict trying to understand their past and trying to understand each other.
