Programmatic Agreement
Under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, federal agencies must consider potential impacts to historic resources for all of their projects, including projects they support through financial assistance. A Programmatic Agreement is an alternative process for completing this review that is tailored to the needs of a specific program or project type.
In 2016, NPS ABPP established a Programmatic Agreement for its grant programs in partnership with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers, and other Concurring Parties. In consultation and partnership with all of these parties, NPS ABPP executed the Programmatic Agreement’s first amendment in 2021, and a second amendment in 2022.
