    Bullfrog Airstrip Temporarily Closing for Maintenance

    On April 9 through April 24, 2025, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area will be conducting repairs at the airstrip located in Bullfrog, Utah. Cal Black Airport at Halls Crossing will remain open during this period. The Bullfrog airstrip will re-open on April 25 for all traffic.

    Investigators have completed their review of the Bullfrog Marina fire that occurred on October 26, 2023. The source of the fire was undetermined and accidental in nature.

    Beginning January 15, there will be a temporary closure of the National Park Service’s developed area in Hite, Utah.

    A small fire has been lit near the top of the rincon mountains, due to a lightning strike. Current conditions do not call for concern.

    Montezuma Castle (includes the Montezuma Well Unit) and Tuzigoot National Monuments are instating fire restrictions that could affect visitors. Effective Thursday, June 29th, The following is prohibited: •Smoking, including Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (E.N.D.S.), except when inside a personal vehicle. •Any open flame source within the boundaries of the National Park Service without a written permit authorized by the Superintendent or their designee. Includes igniting, building, maintaining a fire of wood / charcoal briquettes. Use of propane fire in designated areas is allowed.

    Lake Powell Houseboat Fire Under Investigation

    On Friday June 2, 2023, at 1:23 p.m. there was a report of a vessel fire at the Wahweap Marina, located on Lake Powell near Page, Arizona. The vessel on fire was moored on B dock near the Latitude 37 Restaurant. First responders arrived on scene from the National Park Service, Big Water Fire Department, Page Fire Department, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, Kane County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Arizona Game and Fish Department, and Arizona Department of Public Safety.

    Ajo Mountain Drive, a 21-mile one-way road will close on April 3, 2023 through the end of the month to finish a road improvement project that began last fall. This multi-phased project will improve the visitor use and experience of the road by hardening water crossings and paving the surface of the road on this scenic and popular drive.

    Depending on weather conditions, Lake Mead National Recreation Area is planning a prescribed burn adjacent to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) Lake Mead Fish Hatchery.

    Carl Hayden Visitor Center Temporarily Closed

    The Carl Hayden Visitor Center, located on Highway 89 at Glen Canyon Dam, is temporarily closed until further notice pending the resolution of an issue with the building’s water system.

    National Park Service Superintendent Jeannine McElveen has announced the recension of Stage II Fire Restrictions in Petrified Forest National Park effective immediately. Recent monsoonal rains have reduced the fire danger within the park.
