State and Local Assistance Programs Division (SLAD) is one of three divisions in the Partnership and Civic Engagement Directorate.
The Division, along with selected NPS regional offices, helps support States and communities in acquiring and developing close to home public parks and recreation opportunities, creating a unique nationwide recreation estate.
The Division includes three programs:
- Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) State and Local Assistance
- Urban Park and Recreation Recovery (UPARR)
- Federal Lands to Parks (FLP)
Since each program's establishment, over 30,000 rural to urban communities in all States, Territories and District of Columbia have received assistance through matching grants or the transfer surplus Federal property.
The Division also provides oversight for former Recreation Demonstration Areas (RDAs), assistance with the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Program, and to the Department of Defense Base Closure and Realignment (BRAC) process.
