    The National Park Service (NPS) has selected Patrick Malone as program manager of Region 6, 7 and 8 National Trails Office. In this role, Malone will administer the Butterfield Overland National Historic Trail, California National Historic Trail, El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail, El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail, Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail, Old Spanish National Historic Trail, Oregon National Historic Trail, Pony Express National Historic Trail, Santa Fe National Historic Trail, Trail of Tears National Historic Trail, and the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program.

    Join us on the Santa Fe National Historic Trail for the 2021 American Solar Challenge! The National Park Service (NPS) is partnering with the Innovators Educational Foundation, and the Santa Fe Trail Association to hold this year’s event in commemoration of the Santa Fe Trail’s Bicentennial.

    The National Park Service (NPS) is currently working on the Pike National Historic Trail Feasibility Study, and public input is needed. The study will evaluate the eligibility, suitability, and feasibility of designating the route taken by Zebulon Pike’s 1806-1807 expedition as a new national historic trail.

    An agreement has been signed by the NPS, BLM, and the states of New Mexico and Texas to collaboratively interpret the sites and stories of El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail. The National Historic Trail, designated in 2000, commemorates the historic route of Spanish soldiers, settlers, and missionaries from Mexico City to Santa Fe beginning in 1598.

    The National Pony Express Association will dramatically Celebrate the 158th Anniversary Year of the Pony Express by conducting a Re-run of the famous mail service, June 20-30, 2018.

    On Saturday, June 2, 2018, a new 14.7 mile portion of the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail (NHT) will open in Santa Fe. A public event dedicating this new trail and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System takes place at 11:30 am at the new Dead Dog Trailhead on Buckman Road, eight miles west of Highway 599 in Santa Fe.

    3-Trails Transit Center To Celebrate Opening with Dedication

    The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, 3-Trails West, Inc. and the National Park Service will dedicate a major transit hub which is both high-tech and historic at 12:30 p.m., May 31. The 3-Trails Transit Center is at 9449 Blue Ridge Blvd. in South Kansas City. The event is free and open to the public.

    Trail of Tears National Historic Trail is one of 21 national parks selected to receive a 2017 Active Trails grant from the National Park Foundation. The grant funding will be used to support the Remember the Removal bicycle ride by Cherokee Nation members.
