From the northern peaks of the Rocky Mountains all the way to the southern Chihuahuan Desert, the Intermountain Region (Department of Interior Regions 6, 7, and 8) includes 87 park units within eight states of the American West. The Intermountain Region (IMR) includes Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, and Montana. With around 10.3 million gross total acres of public land, parks in the region host over 54 million visitors annually.

The region and its parks have 3,422 permanent employees and 11,253 individual and group volunteers. The regional office includes 272 permanent employees.The regional office is headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado.
