In spring 2023, Olympic National Park will begin rehabilitation of the Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge, an approximately $11 million project funded through the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA). In preparation for this project, the Hurricane Ridge area of the national park will be temporarily closed to the public. Public access to Hurricane Ridge will resume on Memorial Day Weekend. Visitors to Hurricane Ridge will notice some changes to operations during construction. 

Funded by the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA), Olympic National Park recently awarded an approximately $10.8 million construction contract to upgrade the Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge. The project includes interior and exterior repairs that will bring this facility into compliance with current building safety, fire, and accessibility codes.

In spring 2023, Olympic National Park will be rehabilitating the water and wastewater systems for the Heart O' the Hills Campground. The campground and Heart O' the Forest Trail will be closed during construction. The contract for this work was awarded in fall 2022.

On September 14, 2022, the Ruby Beach parking area and access road at Olympic National Park will reopen after a three-month closure.

In fall 2022, a road work project at the Hurricane Ridge area of Olympic National Park will improve safety and accessibility in this heavily-visited area of the national park. Obstruction Point Road and part of Hurricane Ridge Road will be closed to the public while work is underway.

The Quillayute River Restoration ‘Reach 3’ Project is now underway for the summer and is expected to be completed in the fall. The project is managed by the Quileute Tribe and is focused on aquatic habitat restoration and bank stabilization between river mile 1.7 and 2.9. The project includes installation of large wood structures and excavation of high-flow pilot channels. The project will take place mostly on tribal trust land but a portion of the project will occur within Olympic National Park near Mora Campground. Campers and visitors in the Mora area should expect intermittent noise from construction activities and from helicopter flights during daylight hours beginning June 20 through 24. Helicopter flights may extend into the weekend to June 26 depending on weather.
