Trails and Areas Open After 2015 Fire Season

Park officials will reopen ten trails and areas within North Cascades National Park Service Complex on Friday, May 27, 2016. Other trails and areas will remain closed due to safety hazards in burned areas. Thirty-two fires burned 12,231 acres across the park complex throughout the 2015 summer, closing many areas and trails. Additional areas may reopen throughout the summer after further evaluation and mitigation. ·Newhalem Area Trails (Ladder Creek Falls Trail, Linking Trail, Lower Newhalem Creek Trail, To Know A Tree Trail, and Trail of the Cedars)

·Newhalem Campground Loops A and B

·Newhalem Group Campsites

·Upper Goodell Group Campground

·Upper Goodell climber access parking and routes into the Southern Picket Range that include following Goodell Creek.

Closed areas:

·River Loop Trail

·Rock Shelter Trail and Area

·Newhalem Campground Loop C

·Portions of Newhalem RV parking lot across from the Newhalem Store

·Newhalem State Route 20 crags climbing area

·Park Creek Trail north of Two Mile Camp

·Riddle Creek Boat Dock and Developed Area

·Manly Wham Campground

·Trapper Lake Outlet Camp

Use caution in or around burned areas.A burned landscape presents a number of safety hazards that either did not exist prior to the fire or are increased by the effects of the fire.In some cases these hazardous conditions may continue for several years after a fire. Be very aware of your surroundings, follow warning signs, and pay particular attention to potential safety hazards such as unstable terrain, falling or rolling debris, displaced wildlife, burned stump holes and root chambers, hazard trees, and debris flows.
