North Cascades National Park Service celebrates National Park Week with an invitation to explore, learn, and protect your national park through special programs.

Wednesday, April 18:

Do you want to help get trails ready to go for the season? Come to North Cascades National Park and participate in the Trail Work Day. Meet at the North Cascades Visitor Center in Newhalem at 9:00 am. Please bring water, lunch, and a pair of work gloves. You may want to call Joyce Brown to reserve a carpool spot from Sedro-Woolley (360 856-5700 ext 515).

Saturday, April 21:

Meet early at 8:30am at North Cascades National Park Visitor Center near Newhalem prepared to hike Ruby Creek with Jim Harris, retired NPS Ranger and local historian. Hear the stories of these mountains and streams from the man who truly knows. If you wish to reserve a spot on this all day trip you may leave your name and number with Gerry Cook (360 873-4590 ext 52).

Wednesday, April 25:

Bring your class, a co-worker, or just come yourself to North Cascades National Park and participate in the Highway 20 Litter Pickup Day. Meet at the National Park Service compound in Marblemount at 8:30 am. Please bring water, lunch, and a pair of work gloves. You may want to call Joyce Brown to reserve a carpool spot from Sedro-Woolley (360 856-5700 ext 515).

Saturday, April 28:

“Plants – What We Live For!” Join Ranger Marieke Slovin on a 1.8 mile hike on the River Loop Trail for an exciting ethnobotany walk – learn the many uses of indigenous plants. The walk leaves the North Cascades National Park Visitor Center at 10:00 am.

Sunday, April 29:

“Echolocation – Do You Have It?” Come and explore the wonderful world of bats with Ranger Sarah Bell Ferrare – investigate the ultrasonic radar used by these voracious insect-eaters. The talk will be in the North Cascades National Park Visitor Center Theater at 11:00 am.

North Cascades National Park Visitor Center is open daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. beginning April 15. Call (206) 386-4495 extension 11 for additional details on any of these activities or for help in planning a visit.
