The Cascade River Road in North Cascades National Park will close to vehicular traffic for the season at the Eldorado Creek Parking Area (milepost 20) beginning Monday, September 15th to accommodate bridge installation and permanent road repairs in response to flood events of November, 2006. The Cascade River Road provides access to Johannesburg Camp and the Cascade Pass Trail. Visitors can still access this camp and trailhead by foot, but must park their vehicles at the Eldorado Creek Parking Area approximately three miles from the trailhead. Hikers should expect weekday delays passing through the construction zone (between mileposts 20.5 and 20.8) and must obey direction provided by construction crews to ensure their safety through the construction zone. Drivers of the Cascade River Road should be prepared to share the road with dump trucks hauling material to the construction site. Bridge installation and permanent road repairs are anticipated to be complete by December, 2008.

Hikers on the Cascade Pass Trail should be prepared for winter conditions. All overnight stays in the backcountry require a free permit, which must be obtained in person and is issued on a first come first served basis.
