Closure Notice - October 29, 2024

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 1.5, the National Park Service (NPS) is imposing temporary closures and imposing public use limits on certain park areas, within the National Mall and Memorial Parks on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 as delineated in the attached maps and as further detailed below. These closures are necessary for the United States Secret Service (Secret Service) due to the unique security requirements associated with a First Amendment Demonstration to be attended by the Vice President of the United States and Democratic presidential candidate.

Public Use Limit Associated With Areas of the National Mall and Memorial Parks

Beginning at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, and continuing through 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 the following areas of the Washington Monument will be restricted to public access with the exception of authorized individuals, law enforcement partners, and emergency vehicles:
  • All areas turf and hardscape located within concentric ha-ha wall of the Washington Monument grounds.
The restricted areas are indicated on the enclosed map (Enclosure 1) and will also be delineated by fencing and stationed law enforcement officers.
The National Park Service appreciates the public's cooperation in this matter.
