NAMA Notebook

National Mall and Memorial Parks (NAMA) has amazing resources for students of all ages, which at times, makes the work here overwhelming. We want to share all the fascinating stories about the memorials or the events that happened here or discuss environmental issues or architecture. We want to impart in students a sense of stewardship for national parks.

Recognizing that this digital medium is the best method for us to start the conversation, we present the premier of National Mall and Memorial Parks’ NAMA Notebook. Students are often fascinated by the codes we use in the National Park Service. Each park has a 4-letter nickname taken from the first two letters of each word in the park’s title. National Mall and Memorial Parks becomes NAMA, and though students may not often use actual notebooks anymore, this will be our space to talk education in the park.

We hope the NAMA Notebook becomes a place you will come back to visit for inspiration and ideas about connecting your students to national parks, especially this site in Washington, D.C. We look forward to sharing the many amazing resources in the park, related photographs, primary sources, and ideas for your classroom. Please feel free to share your comments and ideas with us.

You can e-mail us with your feedback and to schedule a field trip or virtual program about National Mall and Memorial Parks.
