Cinnamon Teals are found in shallow wetland areas where they are able to swim to feed on seeds, small insects, and crustaceans. Their spatulate bills, common in many ducks, allow the bird to nose through the water and skim the surface for food. This specimen is a male. In the breeding season, males molt to have rusty orange feathers and red eyes. Females retain the same brown feathers year-round as non-breeding males. Teals build nests on the edges of water areas, and lay around a dozen eggs at a time.
