Edwin Deakin (1838 – 1923)

Born in England, Edwin Deakin immigrated to the United States in 1856. After living in Chicago, he settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. There, Deakin became a well-known and versatile painter. This painting of the Yosemite Valley reflects the grandeur of the Cathedral Rocks and evokes the Hudson River School's use of atmosphere and light to create a dramatic landscape.
