U.S.S. Cairo Bow
2007
Close up view of the U.S.S. Cairo bow with original 2-1/2” iron casemates
and original cannon tubes protruding through the gun ports. Much of the
wood that is visible on the bow is the original wooden fabric with some new
laminated wooden framework forming a “ghosting framework” used to fill in
the missing pieces of this surviving Civil War vessel.
Sitting
atop the vessel’s hurricane deck is the Cairo’s Pilot House the nerve center
of this brown water navy vessel.
