Five coaches were rebuilt into hospital cars for the U.S. Army during World War II. Hospital cars were designed to carry wounded soldiers from hospital ships to military hospitals across the U.S. The cars had to handle the 30,000 wounded soldiers projected to return to the States each month in 1944 and 1945.
