Railroad Lantern

Railroad Lantern

R. E. Dietz Company
ca. 1920

Trackwalkers walked the tracks every day, inspecting miles of track to make sure they were safe for train travel. They used tri-color lamps: Clear for "safe to proceed", red for "stop" or "danger", and green for "proceed with caution." This lantern was used on the New York Central System.
