Two Young Men in Front of the National Park Service Sign
1936 - 1941

"Camp sign at Triangle. Deangelo & Whitey # 2 worked in educational building." A formal education program was a vital component of the CCC camps. In the beginning, classes were presented in reading, writing, arithmetic, history, geography, grammar, spelling, etc. Majority interest in these topics waned and the program shifted to to a more technical one, focusing on vocational training, all designed to prepare the men for the American workforce. The classes also kept the men busy and out of trouble during the evening hours.
