Projectile Points
This collection of projectile points spans 10,000 years of human use. It includes several stylistic forms of spear and arrow technology encountered throughout Nez Perce Country during that period. The larger points are examples of projectile points from 10,000 to 6,000 years BPE (before the present era). These specimens were likely hafted to foreshafts and/or spears thrown with the assistance of an atlatl. The other smaller points shown here are examples of styles used in the region over the last 4,000 to 5,000 years. The stone types represented here are all local in origin and include basalt and several types of cryptocrystalline
silicas.
