Folded cedar bark baskets were used as temporary containers for dried foods and berry picking, as they were easy to assemble on the spot. Traditionally, most families who gathered local huckleberres and cedars, knew how to make these containers. This included Chinookan and Sahaptian people of the Columbia River and the plateaus above to the Salish-speaking people to the north.
