Huckleberries were gathered in the mountains, mid-to-late summer and either eaten fresh or dried for later use. The berries were collected in baskets like this one. It is made of cedar root bundle, coiled, with an oval base and lobelled rim. Leather straps were added to the rim. The foundation of the bundle coil is made of splints arranged
in a spiral and held together by over and over sewing.
