“While harvesting the textile materials, roots, berries…we are rekindling the connection to our ancestors and the environment. We experience gathering, processing the raw materials in places our ancestors once stood. We experience the joy, serenity, the sweet smell of the earth, fresh mountain air, and the ocean breeze”. Linda J. Paisano 2005
This basket is made of cedar root bundle coils and cedar bark. The geometric pattern is often referred to as “salmon gill”. This basket is a Klikitat-style design with the lobelled rim. It is entirely imbricated with beargrass and cedar bark. Imbricated weaving is only found in the Northwest among the Columbia Plateau tribes.
