Hopper Basket, Pestle, and Grinding Stone.
Plateau
This combination of stone and basketry was an excellent system for processing food stuffs. The bottom of the basket is open and is used to contain the material being pounded on the pestle by the mortar. The rocks used to fashion the mortar and pestle were probably found locally. The design on the basket is applied with pigment rather than woven in.
Cedar root (Thuja plicata), stone. H 17.0, Dia 34.0 cm
