This coiled basket is made of cedar root bundles and is almost entirely imbricated with beargrass and horsetail root, except for the beargrass beading between the bifurcated (symmetrically split) stitches. Many of the textile materials used by Columbia Plateau people for weaving and basketry originate in wetlands - rivers, river tributaries, ponds, mountain meadows, potholes, and marshes. This basket is from the Mylie Lawyer collection.
