This twined bag is a made in a traditional style using commercial materials. Reservation life limited access to wetlands where raw material used for weaving had always been gathered. Commercial fibers supplanted natural materials and were available at first through trade, and then in general stores. This bag is plain twined using hemp for the warp and cotton twine for the weft. The false embroidery is wool yarn. The time period of this work reflects the social and material transition taking place on the Nez Perce Reservation.
